RE: Nan Lux's posting of the COTF program (see above)

This would be an ideal avenue for an SD advocate/educator to introduce and integrate SD into the COTF program. The COTF program is emerging as one of the most energetic and well-funded/equipped k-12 technology programs in the country. If you have an interest in SD in education and a desire to participate in COTF I would urge you to consider this program. Check out the COTF's programs such as Bio-Blast, Exploring the Environment, and Astronomy Village at

Inspiration Education Edition Beta Available

Hi folks,

I know some of you use Inspiration to teach systems to your younger students, so I wanted to let you know that the beta version of our _first_ education-specific edition went up on web site last night! Here's the full release:

Inspiration Software, Inc. today announced the beta release of the first education-focused version of their flagship product, Inspiration. The Inspiration 5.0 Education Edition beta release is available free for a limited time, and can be downloaded from Inspiration's web site:

http://www.inspiration.com.

Inspiration is a powerful visual learning tool that inspires students to organize their thinking. Students use Inspiration's Diagram view to dynamically create and modify concept maps, webs and other graphical organizers. With its easy-to-use interface, students focus on their ideas, not the drawing process. The integrated Outline view enables students to quickly prioritize and rearrange ideas, helping them create clear, concise writing.

Inspiration is state-recommended software in Florida and Texas, and is included in the current Apple Education Productivity bundle.

Visual interface

The Inspiration 5.0 Education Edition features a visual interface designed specifically for creating and updating concept maps, webs and outlines. New toolbars make it easier use and learn Inspiration. A redesigned symbol palette gives students quick access to over 500 symbol shapes - representations of transportation, holiday themes, animals, etc. - that allow students to personalize their diagrams.

Free until June 9
The Inspiration 5.0 Education Edition beta release expires June 9, at which time the commercial version of Inspiration 5.0 Education Edition may be purchased. Please be aware that although the beta version has undergone extensive testing, bugs do remain. The beta release does not qualify for technical support.

The commercial version of Inspiration 5.0 Education Edition will have free technical support. It will be available in a single-user version, lab packs and site licenses.

Inspiration Software, Inc. is a privately held corporation that focuses on the development and support of visual thinking software.

I teach a course on organizational dynamics for social work students. The emphasis is on government and social service organizations, but not completely since I believe that principles of system dynamics underlie all organizations. I am interested in learning the best ways of teaching systems principles, and the best ways of integrating systems principles with tqm practices. I am thinking about including some work with iThink, Vensim, etc. to help promote student self-discovery and to help students connect the abstract principles of systems with everyday patterns.

Dear Discussion Group Members,

Hi. I am Robert McLeod from the University of Sydney in Australia and I am completing a doctoral thesis on Organisational Learning (OL) as it applies to schools.

Last year, as my pilot study, my supervisor (Dr. Kevin Laws) and I presented a series of Seminars to Senior Managers from Primary and Secondary Independent schools in NSW, to help them implement some of the LO strategies into their schools/faculities. This involved follow up research with each participant. We are doing the same again this year as well as assisting an entire school (K-12) to implement LO strategies. We base the work on your MIT studies, especially the work of Professor Peter Senge.

Dr Kevin Laws has also been doing some pioneer work on LO's in Taiwan Universities over the past year. Last week he was a keynote speaker at a conference in Taipei for 600 School Principals. In October 1996 Dr Laws and I presented a paper on OL as it applies to educational institutions at the OL and Systems Conference at Monash University in Melbourne. We intend to present another paper this year at the conference in October at the University of Queensland.

The methodology used in our research has been based on the action research and grounded theory approach and we have been encouraged to use "learning histories" thanks to the work being done at MIT by George Roth, Art Kleiner and others. We have also found the LO Journal from MCB University Press (akaminska@mcb.co.uk) to be very useful.

My best regards to you all and I hope to be able to keep you posted on the progress of LO's in the great southern land and the home of the great white shark (Greg Norman???)

Cheers for now

Robert McLeod.

Hi All,

I'm working on a subject, that is " University and industrial cooperation-a system analysis." Suppose that there is not an ideal or strength cooperation between U&I. May be many causes and effects in this problem for example education programs not for using in industries. The first question is, what kind of tools are useful and effective. May be sysetm Dynamics approach a good tools.Inaddition what are avalable such as especialist in this problem ,papers,Similars works and so on.
